The Jelly Fish and the Shark and the Humpback Whale

One day there was a humpback whale and he was squirting water at the shark. Then the man caught the shark with a rope. Then a jelly fish and an other fish, an eel, came to see the shark caught in the the net. Then the man pulled the shark to his underwater cave and tied the shark to a rock. Then the man came back to play with the jelly fish, the eel and the humpback whale. They swam to the humpback whale's house to wrestle. Then they swam back the underwater cave where the shark had untied himself. The shark ate the eel and the jelly fish and the man, but the humpback whale was too big for him to eat, so the humpback whale ate the shark instead.

Grief Management and Great Memory

Note to self: when you get home from running errands with the whole family and your two year old decides he wants the almost totally deflated balloon lying on the counter (where it has been for months) and you give it to him and he demands that you blow it back up and you cannot convince him that what he is requesting is impossible, do not tell him that the balloon is "as dead as your dead turtle." Because his weeping will only intensify and continue for the next 20 minutes until Mommy decides to take him to the store with her (she was already planning on going) so that she can buy him a balloon (which she already had to buy for the other son's birthday) and he can play with it for 5 minutes before moving on to another toy.

Last night while watching Michael Johns perform on American Idol, Davis spontaneously broke out with his rendition of "We Will Rock You". I turned to Kate and asked where he had heard that song. It is not on any of our kid or adult CD's we play in the house or the car. We asked him where he had heard that song and he replied, "At Grandma's house." We realized that two weeks ago we were watching AI at Kate's mom's house and Michael Johns had performed "We Will Rock You". We were impressed.

A Thief and A Dead Turtle

Last night when I (C) got home for dinner, the boys had already left the table- but they had not finished their dinner. Both of our boys have an affinity for bread- especially buttered bread- and came downstairs to try to get bread. Mommy informed them that they needed to eat their lasagna to get more bread. They gave up their argument rather quickly as Davis made his way to the table to make a more personal plea. While he approached us, Aidan flew up the stairs and Mommy remarked, "He just stole bread."

So I got to chase down the bread thief. Aidan ran straight to his bedroom and got as far under his bed as he possibly good. When I asked him to come out, he told me, "I don't like meat, Daddy." When I told him to come out again, he thought about it and then threw the bread out. After I stopped laughing, I pulled him out for the big TO.

Today, I made my usual afternoon stop home for a Coke and learned Kate and the boys had had their long talk about our recently deceased turtle, Pete. Davis ran up to me and said, "Daddy, Pete went dead." I told him I was sorry to hear that and asked him how that made him feel. He replied, "Good."
