Bucks BBall Camp

(K) Yesterday, Aidan got the opportunity through our local YMCA to participate in a basketball camp for 4-7 year olds with the Milwaukee Bucks! He actually got to play and practice with some actual players. Here are some pics and videos to enjoy. Aidan loved it, even though he just wanted to shoot the whole time. We all got to go and watch too! Davis kept asking if he could go by his brother.

(C) At the front door every kid got a green Buck's headband. One of my basketball pet peeves is how silly white guys look with headbands. Rule #1 for White Guy Headband Wearing - You need a short haircut. Rule #2 - You need to wear the head band like Derek Fisher used to, slightly over the top of your ears (otherwise you look like a white troll). Rule #3 (My personal preference) - Wear your headband with whatever the logo is on the back, like Carmelo. The kids were sent downstairs immediately after receiving their headband so all I could do was remind Aidan how we wear our headbands (Yes, we practiced earlier in the day). He runs out on the floor with his headband completely covering his ears. Later one of the women YMCA leaders "fixed" his headband, making him look just like all the other white kids.

The guy in the black Bucks' shirt is Royal Ivey. The guy in the defense picture is captain Desmond Mason. Aidan actually "quit" Mason's station because he was under the impression there would be shooting at the camp (and Michael Redd- a "no show").

The first video is Aidan at Charlie Bell's shooting station. After the video is over, Aidan realizes that the line to shoot again is really long and that there are extra basketballs behind the basket so he jogs over to start dribbling instead of waiting. The next three minutes were pretty surreal watching Charlie Bell try to get the ball back from Aidan and get him to the back of the line.

The last video is Aidan shooting with Yi Jian Lian, the Bucks' #1 draft pick this past spring. He's 7'2" and we got what we were hoping for (as you can hear in the audio), Yi picking Aidan up.

Notes for Uncle Greg:

- Desmond Mason did the Q&A at the end of the camp. He really came across as a genuine guy who understood that this kind of thing is essential for building a positive impression of the Bucks in the community.

- The best kid question: "How much games have you lost?" Answer (following hearty laughter from parent crowd): Too many.

- The best adult question: "How does Yi like Wisconsin?" Answer (once the mic was passed to him): "I love it!"

Aidan's Cold Feet

Today it rained from early morning to near noon making the ice and snow from the past two weeks gross. When we walked to the church around the corner this morning, the boys wore their boots. When we went out to our game tonight the boys were in their shoes. Of course, this did not deter Aidan from heading straight for puddles all night.

When we got home, Aidan took off his shoes and socks to find his feet cold and "wrinkly". He also complained that they "hurted". A short while later while I (C) was at the sink, Aidan ran by to use the bathroom. With the door open and Aidan doing his business, the following conversation took place...

"Daddy, my foot hurts. I want you to get me a new foot that doesn't hurt."

"Really."

"Yeah. I want you to hold my new foot and then saw off my old foot and then glue my new foot on."

"Wow. Where did you come up with that?"

"I don't know. I thought of it at the basketball game."

Beware of the.....

Aidan and I (Kate) ran out to the store the other day and as we pulled into our alley parking spot Aidan asked me, "Mommy, what does that Be...sign say?" On our fence is a Beware of the Dog sign, which was there when we moved in. I told him what it said and he responded with, "but Mommy we don't have a dog." I thought the next phrase out of his mouth was going to be another plea for a dog, which he has wanted for a while, but instead Aidan responded with.....
"We need to have a sign that says....Beware of the Turtle."

Pete the scary guard turtle, thanks for protecting our home.

Aidan Learns The Rules

This morning we were leaving a hotel with an arcade and promised the boys we would stop to play a few games before we left. As we tried to figure out who had spare change to pay for the games, Aidan started asking for money to play games. He tried Mommy first and she sent him to Daddy. Daddy sent him back to Mommy and he uttered the following,

"Mommy, money starts with Daddy."

Later this evening it was time for Aidan's haircut and the bartering that always accompanies it...

"Aidan, time for your haircut."

"I don't want a haircut."

"If you let Daddy cut your hair, I'll give you jelly beans."

"I don't want a haircut."

"If you let Daddy cut your hair, I'll give you ice cream."

"I don't want a haircut."

"If you let Daddy cut your hair, I'll give you ice cream and jelly beans."

"I want jelly beans in my ice cream."

"Done, let's go."
